The offensively gifted defender took on a vital leadership role with a very young defensive core in Belleville this season.

The horrific COVID-19 pandemic ruined Murray and the young Senators chances of climbing into the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The abrupt end of the season could have also affected Murray’s chances to showcase his talents in an all important contract year.

The unrestricted free agent has certainly paid his dues when it comes to the game.

In 174 career games in the AHL Murray has 24 goals and and 61 assists.

Murray’s unconventional path to the pro ranks and progression over the last few seasons has definitely caught the attention of pro scouts.

Murray is definitely a candidate for a two-way contract for the upcoming season.

The highly skilled rearguard can run a power play with the best of them and is extremely accountable and responsible in all three zones.

The twenty-seven year old defender continues to do all the little things it takes to excel at the pro level and has really found his niche in the Senators organization.

Nevertheless, it’s time for Jordan Murray to land a coveted two-way contract.

Some organizations may balk at offering a defenceman of Murray’s vintage a two-way deal, but he certainly deserves a long look given his continued progression, leadership and performance.

The rebuilding Ottawa Senators could have used Murray on several occasions over the last few seasons, but it was apparent the organization felt it necessary to give their draft choices, young prospects and home grown talent an opportunity over a strictly AHL contractual player.

That’s just business.

That’s the way of life for so many players cutting their teeth in the highly competitive and extremely demanding AHL.

Jordan Murray was and still is a fan favourite in Belleville.

His unwavering passion and drive to reach his ultimate goal of playing in the National Hockey League continues to fuel his journey.

Age is just a number, talent, skill and drive, the intangibles that truly set Jordan Murray apart.

One can only hope a two-way deal is in Jordan Murray’s future, in my opinion he certainly deserves it.
